Grounded Charge

Indoor grounding products provide a convenient alternative to earthing outdoors. The wellness benefits of earthing (or grounding) have proven to be so powerful that items such as grounding mats, pillows, blankets, and mattress covers are becoming increasingly popular. But how do they work?

Grounding products typically come with a cord that attaches to the item and then plugs into a 3-slot, grounded outlet. (The grounded port is the small rounded hole on the faceplate.) Grounded outlets have been the electrical safety standard for all homes and buildings since the 1960s. The ground wire in a grounded outlet is not a live wire and doesn’t carry a current; it is a safety backup that connects to the earth via a copper grounding rod outside on the property. In the event of a malfunction, the ground wire can divert excess current to be absorbed and neutralized into the ground.

But the channel works both ways! This grounded connection may be accessed as a pathway for the Earth’s electrons to “charge” conductive earthing products. Indoor grounding items, like our Multi-Use Earthing Pads, are typically made with conductive materials — in this case, a composite of polyurethane, rubber, and carbon powder. When plugged in, the pads carry the the Earth’s natural charge. As your body comes in contact with the earthing pad, you absorb the energy and achieve earthing just as you would by walking barefoot out of doors. For maximum effectiveness, earthing pads should be plugged directly into a grounded outlet, and not a power bar or extension cord. Important Note; Indoor Earthing Pads and other grounding products are most effective when in direct contact with bare skin, or while wearing natural fibres such as linen, cotton, or wool.
